Our brief was to migrate the website to a new CMS and hosting solution which would deliver wholesale improvements to UX, functionality, and support conversion-driven user journeys.

Burness Paull are a full-service, independent Scottish law firm committed to delivering a consistently high-quality service to their clients. 

 

Our brief was to migrate the website to a new CMS and hosting solution which would deliver wholesale improvements to UX, functionality, and support conversion-driven user journeys.  

Updated technologies

Burness Paull needed a modernised, flexible, future-proofed solution across both CMS and hosting infrastructure which would be robust, secure and scalable to support future growth. 

Optimised UX

Refocused and optimised user journeys enabling users to access key content with ease. In particular, refactoring the main navigation to signpost content and enable users to begin their chosen journeys with confidence.  

Flexible content management

Intuitive and flexible CMS features which would empower the internal Marketing and Business Development teams to update and manage content effectively without developer intervention.

Each phase was crafted to uncover aims and context, address the pain points identified by Burness Paull, and ensure a seamless transition to a new, high-performing website which delivered across their identified aims.

Discovery & design 

A period of initial engagement to fully onboard to the existing website formed of workshops covering both design and technical aspects. The intention was to clearly define the overall project objectives with the aim of creating a shared vision of success, and to fully scope requirements.

Working in agile sprints, managing delivery through DevOps and ceremonies across our multi-skilled delivery team.

Migration 

Our migration process was compiled of the following process:  

 

  • Data and content assessment of the existing CMS

  • Content mapping

  • The development of automated content migration scripts to transfer existing content efficiently while maintaining SEO integrity

  • Identification of data, media and pages requiring manual migration

Launch & hypercare 

Meticulous planning to ensure a smooth cutover to live, including:  

 

  • Cutover plan, including DNS coordination and deployment and rollback strategies

  • Stakeholder comms plan

  • 4-week hypercare period providing immediate post-launch support to resolve any issues quickly

The outcome

Enhanced UX and engagement

The new Burness Paull website delivers a seamless and intuitive user experience, making it easier for clients, and prospects to identify and access their chosen user journeys. With improved site navigation and structured search functionality, visitors can find relevant information quickly, leading to higher engagement and satisfaction. Optimised conversion funnels and stronger CTAs have been designed to drive an increase in enquiries and client interactions. 

Streamlined content management

With the adoption of Umbraco and development of Burness Paull’s tailored Design Library, internal teams now have full control over content management without the need for developer intervention. The CMS provides an intuitive interface that allows for easy updates, content structuring, and media management, significantly improving operational efficiency. This has empowered teams to keep the site fresh, dynamic, and aligned with business goals.

Improved security, performance and scalability

With hosting now provided by Umbraco Cloud, with integrated Cloudflare services, the website benefits from high performance, reliability, and scalability—and is well positioned for any future third-party integrations and digital service expansions. 

Ongoing support and continuous improvement

Post-launch, the website is backed by an ongoing support and maintenance agreement that ensures the website is effectively maintained through regular security patching, technical support and continuous improvement initiatives.
